What is style? What variables determine how we dress, and with whateffects, particularly concerning matters of gender and sexuality? Thisthesis deals with these issues through an ethnographic investigation,demarcated to contemporary Stockholm. By focusing on ten differentindividuals, but also including garments, accessories and makeup inthe investigation, the study sets out to explore the meaning of style.This is done through the combination of three different perspectives,on speech acts, variables of time and space together with a focus onbodily matters. In this way, the thesis is a study of the specificities ofsartorial practices in a particular place and point in time, as well asa development of the fashion theoretical definition of the concept ofstyle.
