This book, written in German and English, introduces in twenty-one richly illustrated contributions to the multifaceted reception- and transmission history of the Hebrew Bible and the New Testament. In their various Near and Middle Eastern and African languages, these manuscripts bear witness to the crucial importance of the Bible from Antiquity to the 19th century - among almost all communities of the region.German description: Die orientalische Handschriftensammlung der Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin - Preussischer Kulturbesitz gehort mit ihren 42.000 Banden zu den bedeutendsten der Welt.
