English summary: What is it that actually makes a text a coherent, meaningful whole? This introduction approaches this question from a linguistic perspective. The first part of the volume thoroughly explains essential concepts such as coherence, cohesion, anaphora and implicature by means of selected examples. Based on this, the second part introduces important linguistic theories of relational and referential coherence. The volume is suitable as a basis for introductory courses on text linguistics but is also well suited for self-study and for anyone who works with texts for professional or personal reasons.
