English summary: In 2009, the Varus Battle had its 2000th anniversary - a battle that is counted as one of the central historical events in German history. This comprehensive volume examines the Roman policy in Germania, as well as the image of the Varus Battle in art and media. Furthermore, sensational finds are presented and we are shown how work and research at one of the most important excavation sites in Germany is being conducted: Since 1989, many thousands of finds, a walled installation, and human as well as animal bones have been found at Kalkriese near Osnabrueck, and all these are connected to the Varus Battle. The research results are on display in the newly developed exhibition at the Museum Kalkriese. German text. German description: -Als die Romer frech geworden, zogen sie nach Deutschlands Norden ...- Zum 2000. Mal jahrt sich 2009 die Varusschlacht - eines der zentralen Ereignisse der deutschen Geschichte. Der umfangreiche Band beschaftigt sich u. a. mit der romischen Germanienpolitik, mit dem Bild der Varusschlacht in Kunst und Medien. Dazu zeigt er aufsehenerregende Fundstuecke und dokumentiert, wie in einer der wichtigsten Ausgrabungsstatten auf deutschem Boden gearbeitet und geforscht wird: In Kalkriese bei Osnabrueck wurden seit 1989 viele tausend Funde, eine Wallanlage, Menschen und Tierknochen freigelegt, die mit der Varusschlacht in Verbindung gebracht werden. Gezeigt werden die Ergebnisse der Forschung in der neukonzipierten Dauerausstellung im Museum Kalkriese.
