Tradition Processes as Ways of Forming Religious Identity study the reciprocal effects between formation and tradition processes of ancient scriptures and the forming of identity. Representative examples - originating from different disciplines like Ancient Near Eastern Studies, Studies of the Old and the New Testament, Qumran Research and Jewish Studies - demonstrate how specific texts, on their way of becoming authoritative texts or Scripture, influence both the religious and the political-national identity of communities in different historical contexts.
