All contributions of the book relate directly to the topic of the kingdom of Israel and Judah in the Bible and history. The book presents a plethora of perspectives on the phenomenon of kingship and state. Considered here are the most important parts of the Old Testament literature, i.e. the Pentateuch, the Deuteronomistic history, the Prophecy and the Wisdom. Accordingly, the time span dealt with is quite broad, ranging from the per-Monarchic era up until Hellenism. In addition some conributions reaching in their scope far beyond the boundary of the Old Testament are present, engaging thoroughly the archeology of the "Holy Land" as well as the Ancient Near Eastern and Hellenistic context of the Old Testament. The Septuagint and the New Testament, repeatedly consulted in this volume turn the attention to the questions of the history of reception. The volume is based on an international symposium held in April 2014 in Prague. Manfred Oeming is Professor of Old Testament Theology at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universit t, Heidelberg, Germany. He is the director of the Lautenschl ger Azekah expedition in Israel. Petr Slama teaches the Old Testament at the Protestant Faculty of Theology of the Charles University in Prague, Czech Republic.
