English summary: The history of the island of Ruegen is as fascinating and multifaceted as the island itself. Since it was settled in the 9th century by Slavic peoples it has remained, thanks to its central position in the western Baltic region, a focus of Slavic, Danish and Saxon interests. Under these condition a particular pattern of settlements and land cultivation developed. As the last bastion of pre-Christian belief, if fell to Danish power in 1168 and the island became a melting-pot of various cultures. The authors investigate the development of habitation on the island in the High Middle Ages using interdisciplinary methods that combine archeology, history and the study of names. They sound out why the Slavic culture was able to leave traces in the settlement and naming patterns of Ruegen until today and show the differences in the offshore regions, where the planned internal developed has had a significant impact in the pattern of habitation. Jahrhundert von Slawen besiedelt, lag sie dank ihrer zentralen Position im westlichen Ostseeraum im Fokus slawischer, danischer und sachsischer Interessen. Unter diesen Bedingungen entwickelte sich eine besondere Siedlungs- und Kulturlandschaft. Als letzte Bastion heidnischen Glaubens im Jahr 1168 unter danische Herrschaft gefallen, wurde die Insel zum Schmelztiegel verschiedener Kulturen. Die Autoren untersuchen mit interdisziplinaren Forschungsansatzen aus Archaologie, Geschichte und Namenkunde die hochmittelalterliche Siedlungsentwicklung. Sie ergruenden, warum die slawische Kultur bis heute deutliche Spuren im Siedlungs- und Namenbild Ruegens hinterlassen hat, und zeigen die Unterschiede zum vorgelagerten Festland, wo der planmassige Landesausbau grosse Veranderungen im Siedlungsbild hinterlassen hat.
