As at the same time it is the prayer of the Jew Jesus of Nazareth, the question arises whether this prayer also unites Christians and Jews in their faith.The renowned Catholic theologian Hubert Frankemolle interprets the Our Father as it is transmitted in the gospel according to Matthew (6,9-13), because in 1970 the Christian churches agreed to choose this longer version for their liturgy rather than the shorter form transmitted in Luke 11,2-4. This is done in three stages: At the beginning stands the interpretation of the prayer of Jesus in the reading of the Evangelist Matthew. As a second stage the author searches all seven petitions for accordance with and differences from other prayers of the Bible and of Jewish groups of the time. And as a third step he provides spiritual impulses for Christians and Jews today.The book has become possible due to the renewed relationship of the churches to Judaism since about fifty years.
