The Occidental Quarterly provides scholarly articles on Western history and culture. Articles are written from a variety of perspectives, including intellectual history, evolutionary biology, behavior genetics, and ethnic studies. The Fall, 2017 issue (Vol. 17, no. 3) contains 128 pages of content. A theme in several articles is Jewish activism in shaping culture. Dr. Andrew Joyce reviews the Jewish ethnic activism of Anthony Julius in his apologetic account of historical relations between Jews and the English, as well as its enthusiastic reception by the British media. Brenton Sanderson reviews Roger Scruton's book which attempts to defend Richard Wagner against Jewish activists who have attempted, with some success, to denigrate Wagner's musical genius because of his attitudes on Jews. In the same vein, Nigel Jackson provides a scathing review of another book by Anthony Julius, this one an attempt to paint T.S. Eliot as an irrational anti-Semite and thereby detract from Eliot's literary genius. Dr. Virginia Abernethy provides an informative review of her research on population policy, the main point being that humans respond to economic opportunity with greater fertility-implying that massive immigration from the Third World into Western countries results in higher fertility and a huge cost to the environment. Prof. Andrew Fraser continues his work critiquing contemporary Christianity which has become a religious arm of Cultural Marxism. F. Roger Devlin provides a very positive review of Ricardo Duchesne's book, Faustian Man in a Multicultural Age which has as its theme the restless, exploratory, inventive spirit of the West in the face of hostile academic critics who deny the accomplishments of the West. This fundamental spirit of Western culture is under attack as never before in our multicultural age as new peoples with radically different cultures are colonizing areas inhabited for hundreds, and in the case of Europe, many thousands of years. The theme of the death of the West via immigration is also explored in Dr. Andrew Joyce's review of Douglas Murray's very pessimistic The Strange Death of Europe--strange because it is unprecedented that a people and culture would voluntarily self-destruct as is now happening in the West. Finally Guillaume Durocher reviews Aristotle's Politics, emphasizing the point that the ancient Greeks were well aware of the costs of multiculturalism, noting "Aristotle clearly articulates how homogeneity, a common identity, and a sense of peoplehood are social goods necessary to citizenship, solidarity, and freedom from tyrannical government." This is certainly a message that needs repeating in the contemporary West.
