Fairy tales are the simplest and purest expressions of the collective unconscious and thus offer the clearest understanding of the basic patterns of the human psyche. Folk tales and fairy stories were originally intended for both adults and children and this collection brings together two great European traditions in "Grimms' Household Tales" and "The Best Fairy Tales of Hans Christian Andersen". From the far north-west of Europe comes Joseph Jacob's anthology "Celtic Fairy Tales" while ancient Greek culture is represented by "Aesop's Fables" from south-east Europe. It is illustrated by well-known artists including Arthur Rackham.
