This text surveys the history of the ocean liners. Each great ship, from the "Titanic" to the "QE2", epitomized the designs and fashions of its age while at the same time representing the national aspirations of its flag nation. With prestige at stake, competition between these ships was intense. Through this book we not only witness the evolution of 20th century style and design, which was encapsulated in the luxury liners, but also meet some of the icons of the century: the Duke and Duchess of Windsor, Winston Churchill, Charlie Chaplin, Albert Einstein and Frank Sinatra.
