Melinda Hutton is a normal ten-year-old whose life is ordinary, even boring, until the day she turns into a horse. She and her older brother Felix are baffled when their parents reveal that their family belongs to an ancient race of shape-shifters call Athenites, who have the power to transform into any animal they wish. Her parents have dedicated their lives to proving that Athenites and humans once lived together in harmony, but their dreams of peace are about to be shattered. When the brilliant but evil Professor Stumpworthy sends Felix into a coma and makes their father vanish, Melinda must take matters into her own hands to save the family, her friends, and her whole race of magical beings.
