Featuring an interdisciplinary approach, this title combines theory and in-depth analysis of films. It examines socio-political contexts and local reception of films. It expands the literature on Iranian cinema to local/national dimensions. It is clear and accessible. Despite Iranian cinema's international recognition, there are still only a limited number of academic publications in the field that focuses beyond a certain strand of Iranian cinema that is most popular at international festivals. The scope of this book, is inclusive of other dimensions of Iranian cinema: it examines the work of filmmakers whose work has received little critical attention abroad, despite being widely popular and critically acclaimed inside Iran.
