One of the most significant evolutions in modern sport has been the emergence of world-class performances by master athletes. Over a wide range of sport - from golf to marathons and ironman triathlons, from swimming to football, from rowing to track & field - athletes who, in the past, would have stopped their activities in their thirties or younger, now carry on. No longer is anyone too old to compete and a whole new competitive area has opened up for sportspeople ranging in age up to their seventies.
