This book begins with a wacky prose poem involving professors casting students for roles in a drama (perhaps the story of this book?) and ends with another prose poem of our protagonist on stage for a curtain call in a theater that may be empty, recounting his exploits, after which the professors reappear to render judgement. In between are four "acts" consisting of poems that reflect a life's journey from birth and childhood through coming of age to its latter stages. Themes include young love, living in a modern world, spiritual contemplation, and immersion in nature.
