Sugar Town breaks new ground, both in comics and in romance media in general.Comics with queer characters and by queer authors are in increasing demand as readers seek representation, with websites like Autostraddle and Women Write About Comics specifically spotlighting comics by queer women.Hazel Newlevant is an award-winning cartoonist, whose work has received the Xeric Grant and the Prism Comics Queer Press Grant, and the editor of Chainmail Bikini. This highly successful comics anthology was named "Favorite Comics Anthology" by Autostraddle in 2016 and is currently in its third printing.
