John Strasberg shows the connection between art and life by showing how his own life affected his development as an artist. He describes growing up at the centre of the acting world, as the son of the influential acting teacher Lee Strasberg. He reveals the development of his own artistic vision which was at odds with his father's in many respects. In trying to find out how to be "real" on stage he developed the Nine Natural Laws of Creativity which he reveals in this book. He also discusses his involvement with Marlon Brando, James Dean, Montgomery Cliff, Shelly Winters, Al Pacino and Marilyn Monroe.
