"The Assassins of the Turquoise Palace" is a daring and impressive portrait of a ghastly crime and an examination of one of contemporary Europe's most controversial and important criminal cases - today the only instance of Europe standing up to and defeating Iran's Islamic fascist regime. On the evening of September 18, 1992, Iranian exiles gather for a dinner in Berlin in honor of the esteemed chairman of the Democratic Party of Kurdistan, Doctor Sadegh Sharafkandi. Soon after their arrival at Mykonos restaurant, they are attacked by a group of assassins. Among the fatally wounded are the Doctor and Noori Dehkordi, who arranged the meeting. These names were drawn from a list that Ayatollah Khomeini made in 1980 of 500 Iranian writers, artist, poets, and intellectuals considered to be "enemies of Islam" deserving of murder. Khomeini's hatred for Sunni Kurds and hunt for murder foreshadowed the familiarity of the words "fatwa" and "jihad" in the Western world.The survivors, Parviz Dastmalchi, former wrestling champion Mehdi, and restaurant owner Aziz become influential figures in the court case that is to follow the attack, a trial that challenges the integrity of the German justice system.
