Edward Gorey, a fanciful fan of anagrams, was as celebrated a writer as Miss Awdrey-Gore. Creator of more than one hundred works, he was also an artist, playwright, award-winning set and costume designer, and creator of the animated introduction to the PBS series Mystery He hand-lettered the titles for all but one of his books, much like the covers of The Dustwrapper Secret and The Postcard Mystery. The art for these imagined novels first appeared on the covers of The Awdrey-Gore Legacy in 1972.
