Marilyn Hacker is coeditor with Annie Finch of the award-winning "Poets on Poetry Series", and in this new volume, the veteran author takes her place in the canon. "Unauthorized Voices" focuses on notions of identity, at home and while traveling, and on related issues of artistic (rather than political) citizenship. It includes several pieces on legendary poet Adrienne Rich, as well as essays on names ranging from Phillis Wheatley to Tony Harrison, June Jordan to Joan Schenkar, Fady Joudah to Wanda Coleman. Hacker's book is much like the series she edits: it has an international, cosmopolitan approach to poetry, with an examination of poets and topics that spans a variety of voices and countries.
