With a fictional Jefferson Town as the background, this novel revealed the process from glory to decline of the Compson Family during a period of 30 years. The former aristocratic family of Southern US faced economic dilemma, and almost forgot their religious belief or even ethics, losing the respect of residents in Jefferson Town for them. With chivalry and strong sense of honor of the old times, the eldest son Quentin committed suicide as his sister Caddy lost her chastity. After the marriage, Caddy was abandoned by his husband and became a prostitute. With fanaticism on materialism, the third son Jason became a merciless selfish guy. Although being intellectually disabled and emasculated, Benjy was able to see clearly the hidden motivation behind each character... It seemed to be cursed by the fate that, most members of the family suffered a tragic end.
