Her middle class family is very proud of their success and humble beginnings. Eliot can't understand why Abigail rejects tradition, elegance and history. But Abigail begins to see her own life through Eliot's eyes, and becomes determined to set aside her childishness. She sets up a respected foundation for women in need.
